In stamp paper we often see holes that we take for damages of our stamps!?
But if these holes were there before the stamp was printed???
Let us see a few examples of what I call paper lenses!

Re: Paper lenses
When Rein wrote about it, a mystery was solved .
Mainly in the 2 series of Mexico Exporta many of those stamps have this tiny holes.
One of its main features of this paper is that during the manufacturing process on the surface of this paper was placed a phosphorescent ink (very fluently, I think so) some of this ink was filtered in those holes. These stamps in the gummed side, looks like a starry sky if you illuminate it with UV light.
Saludos.

Re: Paper lenses
José,
indeed "starry, starry night'!
The lenses I am talking about are quite large. The usual paper surface - the felt side - has tinier holes in it! Air escaping form the paper pulp!? It is quite characteristic for uncoated paper to have the felt side have these tiny holes! But "papel traspuesto" has the felt side gummed! The main part of the 1st Mexico Exporta series has this and Series 6! See my separate thread!
But the English papers for Mexico Exporta have the felt side coated and the wire side gummed! That is why you see all the "grooves" at the back! You showed these very well in your own thread! The coated, felt side however can either/and/or have the usual tiny holes at the front or the so-called Tizado Varioloso with myriads of tiny holes in the coating where the coating mass was boiling hot and air puffed out!!!
You should be able to check whether the luminescent "stars" come from these TV holes in the coating!
saludos, Rein

Re: Paper lenses
Rein.
You are right again, my theory was wrong.
it seem to be some Phosphorescent particles in the paper and is not filtered ink
