Black holes in Argentina - Two perforations! 40c San Martin

Mensaje por Rein »

The catalogues mention 2 different perforations for the 10c Rivadavia in red! They do not mention that the same difference in perforations can be found much later for the 40c José de San Martin in typography.

At least they do not make it it so clear what they had in mind!

Mello Teggia has:

568 papel nacional, offset, dentado 13 1/2x13
569 papel nacional, offset, dentado 13 1/2x13, tamaño 20x26mm
569A papel nacional, tipografia, dentado 13 1/2, tamaño 20x25.5 á 26mm
569a idem, goma rayada

GJ'10 has:

1039 (568) tipografiado, tizado,dentado 13 1/4. (tamaño 19.5x25.5mm)
1040 (569A) tipografiado, papel nacional, dentado 13 1/4
1040a Papel gofrado, goma rayada
1041 (569) offset, dentado 13 1/4x13, papel mate nacional (28-08-1956)

Anyone for coffee????

Mello Teggia has two offset-litho stamps with the same perforations but with differences in size [and shade]; only one in typography with a different perforation gauge including a broken gum variant! Nothing about a 2nd perforation for the typography stamps!

GJ'10 although referring to the same Mello Teggia numbers has a completely different description! 1039 is in typography with the same perforation as the 1040, but MT has different perforations for 568 and 569A. MT and GJ only agree on the 569 in offset-litho, the perforation and the papel nacional!!!!

Some in the Foro would like to have a consistent nomenclature on the P&R I classification! This might be an Utopia seeing how the major players / dealers handle the matter!

Let us have a look at the 40c in typography - just looking at the perforations!

Both stamps below are in typography but the left stamp was printed sheet-fed and perforated with the same perforator used for the medium sized offset-litho stamps, whereas the right stamp was printed AND perforated on the reel-fed Goebel press. The height is 30.5mm vs 30.0mm, you can see the teeth getting away from each other when you start follow them at the bottom!
