P & R I: 5c Moreno Typographed papers
The 5ct clays
Here are comparison images for a range of used blocks of four and six. The dates range from 1939 to 1945. The four papers seem to have the 1E4 watermark. The major difference between these papers is the coating applied to the printed surface.
This image shows the four papers at a higher resolution.

The 5cCL1Aa
This paper is a slightly coated 1E4. Pettigiani refers to this paper as 'Mate Lustroso.' The first block shows how the ink can smudge on the coated surface.

The 5c CL1Ab
This paper has a thick coating. The water is not as visible as that of the 5cCL1Aa. I find these stamps used in 1941 and 1942, with fewer used thereafter.

This is the clay paper from 1943, the one used on some of the high values. The watermark is more visible than that of the previous paper, the CL1Ab.

This clay paper has the thickest coating, and in the type of back scans I use, the watermark is very difficult, if not impossible to see. I find use in 1943 and 1944, but mostly in 1945.

5ct forehead details
The very first batch of 1E1s are a separate type from all the others. For this first type there is a rectangle of missing dots in the forehead. Although I noticed this difference sometime ago, I forgot about it. Rein has reminded me of it and studied it in detail.

Tony,
enlarge the single stamps and have a look at the back! You will find about 16 horizontal lines per cm! Some 50 alltogether for the 30mm high stamp! That is characteristic for the 1943 Tizado!!!
All other types when showing horizontal lines will have about 60 lines per 30mm!

Tony,
do you have the Mate Lustroso of the 5c??? It does exist!!! There is no coating! The 1939 printing has a coating, the 1940 has NOT! The 1940 printing is the ML!!!
Re: P & R I: 5c Moreno Typographed papers
Rein,
From what you write then the fourth paper here is the 1943 US clay (so-called).
Yes, there is a 5c on 1E4....I will sort these out next.
