P&R I 40c Sugarcane

Notapor rubiera » 20 Jun 2010 15:12

These stamps were printed in 1945-47, and show very poor color control. Most of the other papers show a high degree of color control and for these latter papers, the color is a key component of the identification process. I begin with the 40c value:

Incidentally, I find that the 30cNGR is a very common stamp, the 20c Cattle is somewhat common, and all other large format values for this paper are at various degrees of rarity.

A 40c1L2 block

This block does not have any plate varieties and is printed on the 1L2 paper.

Was the 40c really issued January 1, 1936?

This cover dates from March 31,1937. It is the earliest cover I have for this stamp. I find it printed on the first paper (the 1E1). I do not have any used specimens dated earlier than this cover. The stamp came into use mostly for the 1.45 pesos rate from the late 1930s.

Tony,

these stamps without watermark have a very clear pattern at the front! In a way, this is a transposed paper, although without the watermark! The paper comes from Zárate and can be easily confused with the 1954 Zárate papers WITH a watermark!

After having found the 50c Petroleo with the printing of the colours inverted, I started out looking for the other denominations in bicoloured offset-litho to have similar effects.

I did report the 20c, the 30c, the 5p and now let us have a look at the 40c Azucar:

Having noticed that new plates of the PyR I series often have new measurements, I compared an early 40c with a late one:

Imagen

The old length of the name field was 14mm, the new one has 13.5mm (the long rectangle in which "Caña de Azucar").

Es suficiente con esta foto?

Red line - linea roja => rayado
Blue lines = lineas azules => malla asimitrica
Black line = linea negra => eje de enrollamiento

Luis,

a simple question may need a more complicated answer. You can not recognize a "rayado vertical" unless you know what the "rayado" is about, the "vertical" refers to the line of AЯ being perpendicular (or vertical) to the "rayado" ....!

The 401E2

This stamp is not as rare as the 2p1E2, but it is rare enough. Here are the ones I have found so far. The dark colors make separating this stamp from the 1E1/1E3 somewhat difficult.

For what it is worth!

My statistics as far as used stamps with Austriaco that I have - not counting the ministerials:

25c 34/1
30c 20
40c 22
50c 6/0
1p 58
2p 9
10p 4
20p 1

behind the "/" the "M" versions; all others are "m" [i.e.the direction of paper runs parallel to the short side of the stamp].

Rein,

One of my guesses is that the selection available in Europe (where I assume you bought these stamps) is a better one for these stamps than the one available when buying from Argentina. I have found that the 1p stamps are not common in selections I have bought from Argentina, yet almost every cover out of the country to North America or Europe bears one and sometimes more....

So far all the brown fibers are in papers supplied by Wiggins Teape from England!

Quite a surprise it is to find brown fibers in other papers as well!
