Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
Registered letter to Köln - 12.12.1956:
The 10c Rivadavia in offset-litho, on Zárate paper, type C:
Type C was issued in 1956 probably.
The 20c Brown in offset-litho, on Zárate paper, type A:
Type A was issued on 30.11.1956 so the date of 12.12.1956 is quite early!

Rein escribió:Theoretically the first type of paper of the 10c Rivadavia in offset-litho - 1942 - but in fact utmost scarce, not even MINT copies are known
Type A: Symmetrical paper mesh, orthogonal watermark, "papel Holandés"
the Servicio Oficial version is more common
S.O. in offset-litho:
Why all references point to 1942????
Look at the Servicio Oficial stamps!
August 8th, 1940 !!!!!

Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
Trying to establish a possible "base block" we are looking for characteristiscs that repeat them self and how regular ...
The 5c Moreno in typography, type A, we have discussed a little bit, in due course we'll continue that.
The 10c Rivadavia - certainly the typographed one - is full of characteristics in that respect that the sheet-fed stamps have some sort of base block, the reel-fed stamps do NOT have it! A sheet of 10x10 may have an unknown number of type II's AND type III's !
The 10c Rivadavia in offset-litho has yet to get studied. A first characteristic for type A has been found:
We will see that this characteristic is to be found in several positions with no system in it!!
to be continued ...

Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
This stamp with the Tela paper [1E3c] shows the 2 described characteristic with yet another one:

Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
The distribution of the characteristics can not be explained by supposing a base block of 10 [5x2] of 25 [5x5] that has been multiplied in a step-and-repeat machine as was usual in making offset-litho plate [or photogravure cylinders].
A breach of a horizontal line may occur haphazardly but not alwayas accompanied by 2 other characteristics in the same design!

Hola
Saludos

the smaller size stamps have a new design that I used to call type IV - with the L-shaped appendix - issued in 1947!

When Leopoldo Tenorio Casal wrote his famous article on the typography definitives he probably had not been aware of a new printing of the 10c Rivadavia in chestnut. A new cylinder had been prepared with a new design.
As I wrote in the previous postings, the size of the 10c had changed constantly. This time the width has come down to 19.5 [the first 10c red was 21.0mm wide!]. A quick measuring of the word "Bernardino" will result in 5.8 [originally 6.2mm!] will help.
The more characteristic feaure is the "L" shaped appendix:

the regulars are on Tela = 1E3c, but your S.O. is on 1E4 - papel holandés - with a cancellation of April 2nd, 1941 !!!!!

Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
The earlier referred to block of 30 [=5x6] does have more interesting characteristics than I had noticed at first:
1st row, 2nd from the left:
5th row, 5th from the left:
A total view:
As we can all see, there is still no logic in the arrangement of the characteristics. Had it been just the ruptures in the horizontal lines we could have called it coincidence, but there are always accompanying features!

Re: The Rivadavia that vanished into thin air
Rein,
Responderé in extenso tan pronto me sea posible. Saludos
Merlo
