Re: Mexico 1950 definitives - Architecture
The direction of paper is always horizontal, the direction of printing is R [ink flowing towards the right].

Re: Mexico 1950 definitives - Architecture
Why there is no WIFAG printing???Rein escribió:The 20p surface mail! There is NO WIFAG printing!
Elementary!
The WIFAG was printing only ONE colour at the time! It had no option to print more than ONE colour with one plate as other presses were doing using the GIORI-process!
There must have been also some complications with the Waite & Saville presses! Basically they could only do one colour at the time?! How was that managed????
The Goebel presses could print more colours in one run but then it was photogravure all over!

Re: Mexico 1950 definitives - Architecture
The Mexican philatelists are using an elaborate scheme of classification for all later sets of definitives.
Based mainly on the type of papers and watermarks which results in about 15 series!
Here they try to follow that coming up with 9-12 series.
The main difference , however, is that the later issues are quite uniform in their methods of printing. The Archicture issues however is VERY complex as far as methods of printing are concerned!
It needs a completely different approach, which can only be rounded off after a careful studying!

Re: Mexico 1950 definitives - Architecture
Which printing methods were involved??
- screened photogravure on the 1936 Goebel reel-fed press
- unscreened diestamping on Waite&Saville reel-fed press since 1934? Always monocoloured.
- unscreened diestamping on Waite&Saville sheet-fed press since 1934? Always bi- or tri-coloured.
- unscreened photogravure on the Goebel reel-fed press (1936-1962?)
- recess on the WIFAG reel-fed press since 1953;
- screened photogravure on the WIFAG reel-fed press since 1963;
There was only ONE WIFGA-press that could handle recess combined with photogravure.
