1956 50p San Martin in recess
The catalogization of this is in quite a mess, we have different colours, perforations, papers and watermarks!
First of all we have to mention that this stamp had been printed in recess on a Giori-press with the optino of using ONE plate and 2-3 different colours!
The medallion was always printed in a different colour than the colour of the frame.
At first the portrait had a bit darker blue - greyish or blackish - to goes with the imported papers from Wiggins Teape!
The later printings on Záraste papers ALWAYS have a greenish blue portrait!
to be continued. ...

Saludos
Luis
The green portraits are the Zárst epaper printings!patagonian » 16 Jul 2008 21:44 escribió:Hola Luis, te paso mi "ficha" de este sello.

Darío Bardi stressed the fact of the watermark having a smaller sun is the main kriterium for distinguishing the printings....Darío A. Bardi» 23 Sep 2008 10:52 escribió:Luis:
Saludos

Re: 1956 50p San Martin in recess
The 50p in recess with 2 different watermarks - a parallel watermark and an orthogonal watermark.
The front of the stamp with a parallel watermark i.e. the line of AЯ is vertical, parallel to the direction of paper (eje de arrollamiento), the AЯ facing left; the paper wire is a-symmetrical with more or less horizontal lines [perpendicular to the direction of paper]
The back of that stamp:
Not just that we have a parallel watermark here - Wiggins Teape - we can clearly see the different colour of the portrait!

Getitng back to the Giori print! The Giori process using 2 or more ink malls to ink the same cylinder or plate.
Just have good look at the blue ink within the portrait ellips - follow the red arrows ! - going to the right the colour will get more greenish!

Re: 1956 50p San Martin in recess
In the Bardi catalogue we find the follówing stamps mentioned:
Three of the 4 imported stamp papers are depicted above! Both Rayado Horizontal with different perforations and the Rayado Vertical with comb 13 1/2!
What about the Tela???? This must be quite common when judging by the prices!!!

Re: 1956 50p San Martin in recess
This stamp had been engraved by the Italian engraver Volumnio Cerichelli from Milano. As I had mentioned before in my postings on the Italian Connection!

It looks like there was only one plate with several characteristics - little dots of spots - and one particular tiny dot that occurs in ALL stamps!
