Re: Detector de filigrana
Sergio,
I think the best way to detect watermarks is to do what Tony Rubiera and I are doing using a computer scanner. Not only the watermarks get visible, some other details will be seen as well:
10c Evita with symmetrical paper wire and an orthogonal watermark:
10c Evita with a-symmetrical paper wire [and thus the more or less horizontal lines AKA "rayado"] and a parallel watermark:

Re: Detector de filigrana
Hello Rein,
I am thinking on buying an scanner. Do I need an special scanner for analizyng watermarks with the computer? Are you both (Rubiera and you) using the same technique? because your pictures doesn't looks the same, Tony's pictures looks like the light is passing thru (if you understand what i mean), but the pictures you have shown are more opaque.
Have you had any problems with any kind of watermark?
If the technique you are using is explained in other post please let me know.
Thanks
Sergio

That allows you to get a permanent image of the watermark; so you have time to measure it, compare it with other ones, with the catalog images, etc.

I am using a flat-bed scanner made by HP Scanjet G3010. The resolution I use is 2400dpi [although 1200dpi may do] and have the most contrast, darkness etc.
The scanner can do slides as well - that is what Tony calls back-scanning [from the back, goes through the paper] and so he gets a different result. My scans are more like what you can see with your own eyes having enough light to come from aside making "shadows" of the differences in "height" in the paper surface.
