Sergio,

no!

But, it is not SF 1 either! It gives the impression of an asymmetric paper wire with outstanding diagonals from top left to bottom right! And I think we have a SF 4 at hand :)

It would be great to have a good scan of the front and see whether the grooves are visible there!

Hello Rein, thanks for the answer. I am happy because my diagonals were oK :)

This is a front scan

Question, what would you do with the stain in the top ?

If you need a higher definition scan check this link
Thanks

Sergio,

the front of the stamp show all the diagonals a lot better!! Which probably makes it a SF 1 after all!

Bear in mind that we can have TWO versions of the SF 1!

- with the indents [rhombos between the diagonal blue lines] at the front [your copy!]
- with the indents at the back, the gummed side

Sergio,

Yes! As the eye may not see the rhombos but the scanner just as well!

There are at least three plates, perhaps four. I find a variety ONLY on the NGR in 1948, and another ONLY on the 2C of 1949, and then there are the varieties only found on the second clay of 1952, see posts below.

Existen por lo menos tres planchas. Yo encuentro una variedad unica al NGR en 1948, otra unica al 2C de 1949, y existen variedades unicas al segundo tizado de 1952, vean el material siguiente.

We should have another look at the various "plate flaws"and root-block characteristics!

I am studying quite some 40c stamps and I am not so sure anymore there were so many plates!

The 40c Azucar is a particular difficult stamp to find plate flaws in. The few acknowledged here in this Foro haven't always been ascribed to a particular type of paper.

What are the types of paper we need to know!

I prefer to use the simple system of D. Bardi although not perfect it is much better than that of Pettigliano;

MI 1 1936 = Wiggins Teape symmetrical wire, parallel wmk or Granulado horizontal
MI 2 1937 = Austriaco
MI 4 1941 = Tela
SF 1 1945 = sin filigrana granulado parallel to the long side of the stamp
SF 2 1947 = sin filigrana granulado parallel to the short side of the stamp
RR 2 1949 = rayos rectos rayado parallel to the long side of the stamp
RR 2 1949 = rayos rectos rayado parallel to the short side of the stamp
TI 2 1949 = Wiggins Teape coated paper asymmetrical wire, parallel wmk or tizado rayado vertical
MI 5 1950 = Wiggins Teape asymmetrical wire, parallel wmk or rayado vertical
MI 6 1951 = Wiggins Teape asymmetrical wire, orthogonal wmk or rayado horizontal
TI 6 1952 = Wiggins Teape coated thin paper asymmetrical wire, orthogonal wmk or tizado delgado
ZA 2 1956 = Zárate granulado vertical

Strange enough Bardi did not combine SF 1 and SF 2 as they are the same but for the orientation!

When telling the various offset-litho plates by the tiny root block characteristics, the main divide seems to be around 1948!

This means that MI 1, MI 2, MI 4, SF 1 and SF 2 may have had the same original root block. From 1949 onwards there seems to be new root block introduced that has at least ONE characteristic from the very beginning i.e. in 1949!

In the word "ARGENTINA'" the right leg oft he "N" is longer and at the same time you may find a very tiny dot in front of the "T" although that one is often not visibile...
