These printings are from the 1950s, and there are at least three major groups, all easily separated by the changes to BOTH colors. This stamp has several easy-to-spot plate varieties. Here is a page:

There is a plate variety that is almost impossible to spot:

It has a long horizontal scratch to the central design.

Note that the line ends at the denomination box.

This following variety has a long scratch across the palm.

There are other minor scratches to the late issues plate.

Looks like there is only one of these in the plate, and because it shares a scratch upper rite with a more common variety of the same era, it is possible that this is a very late state of the plate. The watermark looks like the 1L3, with square RA.

I do not find any of the common 5P1L-issued in the 1950s-plate varieties on the 5P2C-issued in 1949. Here is the one variety I find in the batch of 25 I just received. I do find a second specimen with this plate variety in this sample.

I doubt whether there is a 5p at all that has NOT the yellow over blue! It is like the 50c - take the coated SO and it is obvious, but all the other 50c have the background colour over the design! Probably the same with the 25c!

As to the different plates for the 5p:

- 1st plate - with all the clouds of bluish dots
- 2nd plate - somewhat larger design - for the no watermarks -
- 3rd plate - smaller just like the 1st plate - with all the scratches!

About the plates, there is a variety I have shown that can be used to verify your statement.

This is what I meet with this plate variety:

From the first paper on - and it is quite comnon among the few I have - I guess it is one of the root block varieties. I do not see it among the 2C stamps nor on the after 1949 stamps,so we may as well have 2 plates.

this variety belongs to the first green plate; for the blue colour there are at least 3 plates been used. The 1Lx papers do not have it! There is no Zárate!

I mentioned 3 plates for the 5p, maybe I was too enthousiastic!

I found 3 stamps -all 1E1 - to have more or less the characteristic Tony describes but with a lot of blue dots that I would have otherwise considered accidental "frying specks"!

your broken frame under Turismo had been mentioned by Tony already and is one of the 10 base block characteristics! Not just the broken frame but also the horizontal blue line! It belongs to the second [or third] plate of about 1951.

The 5p2C with 5pNOP colors

This is the first time I notice this stamp, and I doubt I have a second example....although I will look further. The colors are those of the NOP, but the paper is 2C, and luckily, the postmark matches 1949, a year consistent with normal use for the 5p2C.
