Little has been written about the 1945 Austrian Coat of Arms series!

How did the catalgues - Michel and Austria Netto specifically - write them up???

The lower face values up to 16 were printed - as far as I have material - in typography.







Especially in the name of the designer you can see the deformation of "Ranzoni"!

According to Michel the 20 is supposed to be in typography! All I have seen so far is in offset-litho!!!





The "Ranzoni" looks quite decent!!

Does the 20 in typography exist at all???

And if does the typography version may be quite scarce! Reason enough to list the two printing processes separately!

But the ANK claims Offset=litho!?





The Ranzoni is horrible!

According to Michel the 30 exists in both typograpy and offset-litho! And that is correct.

The ANK acknowledges only the offset-litho version.

Raf Strobbe suggested a potential example of metal plates versus gummi-plates in typography:

Ob es Buchdruck und Offsetdruck sind weiss ich aber nicht. Könnte es nicht BDr von Gummiplatten und von Metallplatten sein ?

ich weiß nicht, ob das eine Hilfe ist, oder nur zu noch mehr Verwirrung führt –
folgenden Abschnitt aus der Zeitschrift „Die Postmarke“ vom Mai 1946, die sich auf die amtlichen Verlautbarungen beruft, kann ich hier zitieren:

Druckverfahren der Pfennig-Werte:

nur in Buchdruck erschienen:
3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 25, 40, 50 und 60 Rpf.

davon Buchdruck, Druck von Metallplatten: 3, 4, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 25, 30, 38, 40, 42, 50, 68 und 80 Rpf.

und Buchdruck, Druck von Gummiplatten: 5, 6, 8 und 12 Rpf.


nur in Offsetdruck: 20 und 24 Rpf.

Sowohl Buch- wie auch Offsetdruck: 30, 38, 42 und 80 Rpf.

Hallo Sammlerfreunde,

noch einen interessanten Artikel zur Wappenserie gefunden...

Herstellung der Buchdruck-Gummiplatte:

Die aus Zink hergestellten Hochdruckplatten der Wappenserie zu 5, 6, 8, und 12 Rpf. Wurden in die Klischeegummipresse eingelegt und mit dem Matrizenmaterial bedeckt. Der Presse entnahm man den Tiefdruck (Matrize), der hierauf mit der Gummiplatte bedeckt, eingepresst und vulkanisiert wurde. Damit war die druckreife Platte hergestellt.  ....

Herstellung der Buchdruck-Metallplatten:

Von einer Zinkätzung mit 10 Markenbildern wurden auf einer Presse Prägungen in Blei hergestellt. Von diesen Bleimatrizen wurden sodann in galvanischen Eisenbädern Metallhäute erzeugt, diese nach Verzinnen und hintergießen mit Blei auf genaue Stärke und Größe gefräst und dem Druck zugeführt.

Herstellung der Offsetplatten:

Als Vorlage für die Offsetplatten wurde eine schwarz-weiße Strichzeichnung angefertigt und diese auf Markengröße fotografiert, 4 Blatt zu 50 Stück (fünf 10er-Streifen) auf Film addiert, auf Zink kopiert und die fertiggestellte Platte an die Offsetmaschine zum Druck abgegeben.

Hence, just in typography: 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 25, 40, 50 and 60 Rpf. Of these face values with metal plates the 3, 4, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 25, 30, 38, 40, 42, 50, 68 and 80 Rpf and the 5, 6, 8 and 12 Rpf with gummi plates!

This means that the 8rpf and 12rpf exist both with metal and gummi plates!

Just in offset-litho: 20 and 24 Rpf.

Both typography and offset-litho: 30, 38, 42 and 80 Rpf.
